Clothing Your Hound

Not sure about how to clothe your Hound?

When temps reach 15°C (60°F) or below, pop a Tee on your hound. A good rule of thumb is if you feel chilly and need to pop on a long sleeve tee or jumper – chances are your hound does too!

Some hot tips to keep your greyhound warm:

  • To gauge if your greyhound is cold – feel their ears. A good indicator is if their ears feel cold, or if they are sleeping tightly curled up in a ball or with their snoot tucked under their paw.
  • In the evenings, we recommend long johns, long sleeve splice tees or snuggle sweaters (these last two are a good option for those hounds who don’t like the feel of back legs).
How do I acclimatise a newly adopted hound?

Clothes will be a foreign concept – they might not have ever worn a coat. Ease them into it. Start with a Classic Sleeveless Tee, then move onto a Long Sleeve Splicee, and then see if they’ll entertain the feeling of Long Johns.

Remember that every hound is different, so one might bound around the house and another might statue freeze. We hear that treatos, scritches and positive praise works wonders in getting your new hound used to Hound-Tees.

How do I get my hound into Hound-Tees?

Visit the Fitting Room for our instructional video, as a quick guide:

Putting your Hound-Tee on your Hound: First pop it over their head, centre it along the back. Using the stretchy chest panel, gently take their ankle, bring it up and feed the leg through the Hound-Tee. Repeat on other leg.

Taking the Hound-Tee off aka “The Reverse Banana Peel”: Grab the tail of the Tee, pull it all the way up to their chest. Pop their head down, then swiftly peel the tee over their head. Drop it to the ground and then step each leg out. Give them a big scratch for being a good snoot!

About Us

Where are Hound-Tees made?

Hound-Tees are proudly and ethically made in Melbourne, Australia. We are a small business with a small crew and lots of love for dogs (sighthounds are our favourite).

Sizing

My dog seems to be in-between sizes. What do I do?

If you’ve measured once, make sure you measure a second time. If your hound is still in-between sizing, we recommend going with the larger size. If the chest measurement is one size but the back length is another, always go with the chest measurement. If you run into any issues, please shoot us an email.

My dog isn’t a greyhound, will Hound-Tees still fit?

Hound-Tees are made to fit dogs with a deep chest and a slim body shape. We currently offer three breed sizes: Greyhound, Whippet, and Italian Greyhound (Iggy).

We find our garments will fit most sighthound breed dogs and some gundog breeds. If you are unsure, please contact us with your dog’s breed and measurements.

Do you make Italian Greyhound sizes?

Yes, we do! Our Italian Greyhound range is called Iggy Fit. We do small runs of Iggy Fit, so we recommend snapping them up as soon as you spot them online. If you can’t see any on our website, feel free to touch base with us and we can tell you when the next drop will happen.

Alterations + Custom Tees

Eek! My Hound-Tee has a hole, can it be fixed?

Yes, we can repair your Hound-Tees. We just ask that a small donation be made to our friends over at Gumtree Greys to cover the cost of your repair. Contact our crew who can assess and decide whether your garment can be mended. We recommend following our Care Instructions to prolong the life of your Tees.

Can I get a custom-made Hound-Tee?

We do offer custom-made Hound-Tees, jump over to our sizing chart to measure your doggo, and then shoot us an email at aroo@houndtees.com.au - we have 10 custom spaces available per month, so if you're looking for something special, do so ahead of time!

Can I get my Hound-Tees altered?

We offer slight alternations, such as shortening the body, adding, or removing a neck or shortening the sleeves. These changes are an added $15 per alteration. Please contact us.

If you would like a different alteration made, please contact us with your specific request and we’ll see if we can make it happen.

Can you make alterations for arthritis or my tri-paw snoot?

Absolutely, we can make alterations to suit tripaws, or cardigan adjustments with snap buttons for dogs who suffer from arthritis – we’ve got you covered.

Donations

I have too many Hound-Tees and/or do not need them anymore. What should I do with them?

If there really is such a thing as too many Hound-Tees, then we suggest donating them to your local rescue group. Or you can join our community Facebook group: The Houndtee Hound Lounge and sell them via our buy/swap/sell mega-thread.

Adoptions

Help! I would love to adopt a greyhound but don’t know where to start?

We’re glad you asked this question. We believe every greyhound deserves to adopt a hooman. You can see a comprehensive list over at Blue the Grey. But we also recommend contacting your local animal shelter or rescue group to see if there is a gorgeous snoot waiting for you!
If you cannot commit long-term, consider fostering. Fostering saves lives, it is free and feel-good. If you are in Victoria, check out our friends Gumtree Greys and Amazing Greys for more information.
