Whether you have been with us since 2015 or you are new to the greyhound and Hound Tees world, this is your backstage pass. Beyond making the most adorable and cosy greyhound fits you ever did see, what are we actually about? How do we make your snoot’s jim jams? Are we a good place to put your time and money?

Where Did Hound Tees Come From?

It all started with Jen’s first greyhound, Fritz.

Jen could not find clothes that fit her long boi, so she started knitting jumpers. Thanks to their low body fat, thin skin and short coats, greyhounds need a lot of help staying warm. Clothing is not a cute extra for them. It is a genuine health and comfort essential.

One woman can only knit so quickly. Jen moved to the sewing machine and made Fritz a stripy shirt. If you ever meet Jen, there is a good chance she will be wearing stripes too.

Once Fritz was rocking the original Hound Tee, Jen noticed more people coming over to say hello and ask for pats. She realised Hound Tees could do two important jobs at once.

  • Keep long dogs from being chilly billys
  • Help change greyhound reputations by showing people how goofy and luffable they really are

Soon people began asking for Hound Tees for their own snoots. Fritz needed a full wardrobe anyway, so Jen kept designing and sewing. That was the beginning of Hound Tees.

We now send Hound Fashun all over the world, and everything is still hand made in Melbourne.

Since 2015, and for forever, Hound Tees has been and will be stubbornly Melbourne made.

Our warehouse in the northern suburbs is lined with:

  • Shelves of bright fabrics and off cuts
  • Hound Tees to be
  • Stacks of orders ready to pack and ship

The space is vibrant and loud, visually and also because Jen.

Our team is a small group of greyhound people who are passionate about supporting the sighthound community. We are lucky enough to work with doggos in the office most days. They are our snootervisers and quality control department. Everyone here understands the ridiculous stories that come with greyhound life.

Aunt Tee Jen shares her life with:

  • Three rescue greyhounds
  • A whippet
  • Three rescue donkeys
  • Six goats
  • Two hundred sheep
  • Five chickens
  • Four ducks

There is no shortage of luff and a big slice of it is reserved for the Hound Tees community.

What Is The Hound Tees Mission?

At HT HQ, our values are clear and we weave them into everything we do.

1. Donating To Volunteer Run Greyhound Organisations

Many greyhound rescue and support groups receive little or no government funding. We donate Hound Tees, tug toys and cash to organisations across Australia.

In 2022, our donations went to:

  • Galgos del Sol
  • Greyhound Rescue
  • GIVIT
  • Gumtree Greys
  • Illoura Animal Refuge
  • Pets of the Homeless
  • Amazing Greys

Supporting the people on the ground matters to us. They are the ones pulling hounds from kennels, organising foster homes and matching dogs to couches.

2. Eliminating Textile Waste

We are serious about minimising fabric waste.

  • We cut patterns to use fabric as efficiently as possible
  • Off cuts become snoods and tug toys instead of going to landfill
  • We even take suitable off cuts from other businesses
  • We avoid materials that have a negative impact on the environment where we can

Slow fashion for fast doggos means slower waste too.

3. Supporting Local And Independent Artists

We love collaborating with artists from Australia and overseas. Many of our prints are the result of partnerships with creatives whose work we genuinely adore.

Keep an eye out for collab drops and limited runs.

4. Protecting And Correcting Greyhound Reputations

Greyhounds are often misunderstood.

Common myths include:

  • They are aggressive
  • They need huge amounts of exercise
  • They are too “high maintenance” for normal homes

In reality, most greyhounds are gentle, affectionate couch potatoes who are thrilled with a daily sniffari and a soft bed.

We use our platform, our products and our content to show greyhounds as they really are. Goofy. Sensitive. Silly. Deeply luffable.

5. Slow Fashion For Fast Doggos

That is our motto.

6. Keeping Long Dogs Happy, Healthy And Luffed Up

Clothing is a key part of sighthound comfort and health.

  • Sweatshirts and tees protect their bony bodies from pressure sores and skin irritation
  • Layers help them stay warm in winter and on cold nights
  • Soft fabrics support all that roaching, loafing and couch hogging

We design every piece around function first, then style it up with Hound Fashun attitude.

Where Is Hound Tees Going?

Our goal is to keep growing in a way that feels good for our community, our hounds and our planet.

We are committed to:

  • Continuing to donate to volunteer run greyhound organisations wherever we can
  • Bringing fresh Hound Tee styles to the pack
  • Collaborating with artists we love
  • Holding ourselves to high production standards so Hound Fashun lasts

Hound Tees will always be made in Australia by people who live and breathe greyhound life. Our whole team has been involved in rescue in some way.

At this point, we are all basically owned by hounds.

We hope our work helps more people see greyhounds for the goofy derps they are. Their quiet presence, dramatic roaching and zoomies until they are zorsted bring so much joy into a home.
