Choose the Perfect Warmth Factor for Your Doggo with the right Hound-Tee
The Hound Tees Warmth Factor Guide. What Your Long Dog Should Wear and When
Just like hoomans, dogs feel the chill. Our thin skinned, bony bodied besties, especially Greyhounds, Whippets and Iggys, are all particularly sensitive to cold weather. That is why Hound Tees matter. They are not just cute Hound Fashun. They are essential for keeping your long dog warm, comfortable and supported.
We create garments in warmth factors from 1 through to 4, and every style can be layered for extra cosiness. Here is your guide to each warmth level and when your doggo should wear it.

Warmth Factor 1
Sleeveless Hound Tees
Sleeveless Hound Tees are perfect for mild weather or for hounds who want a bit of sun protection during outdoor adventures. They are also great for houndies who prefer the freedom of no sleeves. The lightweight stretchy cotton is breathable and comfy, and you can choose between a crew neck or a skivvy to suit your long dog’s mood.
When to Wear Sleeveless
- Mild, slightly chilly weather
- Outdoor activities when sun protection is needed
- Layering underneath sweaters or jackets for extra warmth
Warmth Factor 2
Long Sleeve Hound Tees
Long Sleeve Hound Tees provide more warmth and coverage than sleeveless styles. They are ideal for crisp days, indoor lounging, or chilled out sniffaris. Made from 95 percent cotton and 5 percent elastane jersey, they are breathable, comfy and perfect for all day wear.
Crew neck or skivvy options let you pick your hound’s preferred vibe.
When to Wear Long Sleeves
- Cooler days
- Snuggling or roaching inside
- Casual outdoor walks
- Layering under other Hound Tees styles

Warmth Factor 2.5 to 4
Long Johns
Long Johns take warmth to the next level. They offer full body coverage with protection for all four quick stix. The warmth level depends on the material. Tee, Tweater or Sweater fabric Long Johns all sit within this range.
The skivvy neck keeps the snoot and neckline warm, and the full back leg coverage makes them perfect for head to toe comfort.
When to Wear Long Johns
- Cold days or chilly nights
- Overnight sleeping
- Ideal for older hounds
- Perfect for dogs who really feel the cold
- For any hound who does not mind having their twigs covered
Warmth Factor 3
Tweaters
Tweaters are made from French terry cotton which makes them the perfect in between. They are great for those not quite hot and not quite cold days and are ideal during change of season weather.
Most Tweaters come in either sleeveless or long sleeve designs depending on your doggo’s leggy preferences.
When to Wear Tweaters
- In between season weather
- Outdoor activities on cooler days

Warmth Factor 4 to 5
Sweaters
Sweaters are for proper cold weather. They offer full body warmth, come in sleeveless or long sleeve options and are designed to be worn comfortably over any other Hound Tee. They are cosy, soft and perfect for overnight sleeping or chilly outdoor adventures.
When to Wear Sweaters
- Cold winter days
- Sleeping overnight in colder homes
- Perfect for dogs who feel the cold deeply
- When you want an outer layer that fits over any tee
Do Not Forget to Accessorise
Neckwarmers, snoods and bandanas add warmth and style. Pair a neckwarmer with a crew neck tee for those in between days. They look cute and keep the snoot cosy.
LAYER, LAYER, LAYER
All our sweaters are made slightly oversized so they can layer comfortably over tees. If your houndie is cold, layer up.
Choosing the Right Warmth Factor
Selecting the right Hound Tee for your long dog is about understanding their needs, their preferences and the weather. Whether it is a Sleeveless Tee for a mild day, a Long Sleeve Tee for lounging, Long Johns for a cold night or a Sweater for the full cosy treatment, there is a perfect Hound Tee for every scenario.
