Getting your long dog in and out of their Hound-Tee

Getting Your Long Dog In and Out of Their Hound-Tee

Sighthounds have very different bodies from most dogs. Long legs, deep chests and very little body fat mean they can get cold quickly and their delicate skin needs protection.

A well fitted Hound-Tee keeps your longdog comfortable, protected and looking seriously stylish.

Here is everything you need to know about when to use a Hound-Tee and how to put it on and take it off your hound.

How to Put a Hound-Tee on Your Dog

The technique changes slightly depending on the style of tee.

You can explore all styles, sizing information and style guides on our clothing guide pages.

Putting on a Sleeveless Hound-Tee

  1. Boop their snoot right through the head hole.
  2. Centre the Hound-Tee along their back.
  3. Lift each front paw gently behind the ankle joint.
  4. Guide the paw through the arm opening.

The stretchy chest panel makes this step easy and comfortable for your hound.

Putting on a Long Sleeve Hound-Tee

  1. Start by placing your dog’s head through the neck opening.
  2. Guide each paw through the sleeves.
  3. Cover their claws with your hand while guiding the paw through the cuff.
  4. Pull the garment gently down over their chest.

Putting on Long-John Hound-Tees

Long-John styles include back leg openings.

  1. Follow the steps above for head and front legs.
  2. Slide the garment slightly to one side.
  3. Lift the back leg gently and guide it through the leg opening.
  4. Repeat on the other side.
  5. Align the garment comfortably around the tail.

You only need to lift the leg slightly. Just enough for your hound to step back into the opening.

How to Take a Hound-Tee Off Your Dog

For sleeveless and long sleeve tees, we use a technique known as the reverse banana peel.

The Reverse Banana Peel Method

  1. Grab the tail of the Hound-Tee.
  2. Pull it upward toward your hound’s shoulders.
  3. Gently lower their head.
  4. Peel the tee down over their head.
  5. Guide each leg out by holding behind the ankle joint.

Once the tee is off, reward your hound with a scratch and a well deserved treat.

You can also watch Aunt-Tee Jen demonstrating the reverse banana peel on our clothing guide page.

Removing a Long-John Hound-Tee

  1. Step each back leg out one at a time.
  2. Guide the fabric down their leg using your hand inside the garment.
  3. Once the back legs are free, finish with the reverse banana peel method.

You Should Put a Hound-Tee On When

Your hound will benefit from wearing a tee when:

Sun protection is needed

If your hound is outside in sunny weather, a Hound-Tee can help protect their skin. Always watch the temperature and never walk your dog in heat above 25°C.

Your longdog feels cold

Check their ears. If their ears feel cold or the temperature is 15°C or below, a sweatshirt is recommended.

A good rule of thumb is simple. If you feel chilly, your hound probably does too.

They are snoozing

Sighthounds love to sleep. A Hound-Tee keeps them warm while resting, especially if blankets tend to slip off during nap time.

Looking After Your Hound-Tee

Taking care of your Hound-Tees properly helps the fabric stay strong and comfy for your hound.

Many owners like to keep a few different styles for different conditions. Long-Johns are perfect for very cold nights, while sleeveless tees are great for everyday walkies.
